Simplifying Your Zakat Calculation

Calculating your Zakat isn’t as difficult as you may think. We find that breaking your assets down into different categories makes the process simple. We have categorized assets into Zakatable assets (gold, silver, cash, savings, business assets, etc.) and deductible liabilities (money you owe, other outgoings due) so you can calculate your Zakat with ease.

Once you have calculated your net assets, compare them to the nisab threshold. If your net assets exceed the threshold, you owe 2.5% of the total as Zakat.

What is Nisab? The nisab is the minimum wealth a Muslim must possess before they become eligible to pay Zakat. For 2025, the nisab values are:

  • Silver: 612.36 grams = £488.24
  • Gold: 87.48 grams = £6,425.03

How Zakat is Calculated: 1. Determine the total value of your assets. 2. Deduct outstanding liabilities. 3. If your net assets exceed the nisab, multiply by 2.5% to find the amount due.

Zakat and Debts: Debts due within 12 months can be deducted. However, long-term liabilities, interest payments, and unpaid taxes are generally not deductible.
